The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an Australian Government initiative that provides funding for disability-related expenses. The scheme was legislated in 2013 and became fully operational by 2020.
The NDIS supports Australians under 65 who have a significant and permanent disability, aiming to help them achieve their goals and maximise their potential. It ensures that participants and their families receive the necessary supports to lead fulfilling lives.
Individuals eligible for NDIS funding are called Participants.
Participants can access ‘reasonable and necessary supports’ to assist them in achieving their goals and living independently. Podiatry services are included in the NDIS support options and can be incorporated into a participant’s plan.
